Seven reasons to know your ideal client

Unless you know who your ideal clients are: your product creation marketing attempts are probably not going to work. Harsh but true. Find out why it’s important to know who your ideal client is.

1. You can’t appeal to everyone. If you’re a coach and when people ask what you do, and you say ‘I work as a life, parent and small business coach’, you’ll appeal to none of them. Say ‘I work with solo-preneur start-ups in their first 6 months’ and you’ll get people thinking ‘that’s me!’ By the way, if you do find you say the first sentence above, please click here.

2. You want to be seen as an expert in your field. How can you possibly be seen as an expert in all small business coaching industries?

3. Once you know who your ideal client is, you can find out where they go to meet and find information (eg conferences, online groups etc). Then you can go there too.

4. Once you know where they go, you can ask them what they want. Then you can provide a service people actually want (NB. In 99% of cases they will not say ‘coaching’, they will say ‘more clients’ etc)

5. Once you have a profile of your ideal client you can go through your database and see how well your current clients match up to the ideal. Then don’t be distracted by those that don’t, and bend over backwards for those that do.

6. You can ask your current ideal clients what else they would want that you’re not already providing, and ask them where to find more people like them.

7. Once you know who ISN’T your ideal client, you can be discerning with your time and energy and NOT accept all those twitter invites from people who just don’t fit it. (Harsh but you need to be!)

Please leave me a comment and let me know your ideal client, you never know, I might know someone that might be!
