5. Offer a free item of value as an incentive for people to leave their details with you. By this I mean anything that it doesn’t cost you to send out, but is of great value to the people you want to attract to your site.

For example you might have a free ’setting goals in your business’ report or an audio download they would find useful. This does take some time to pull together, but you only have to do it once and it is really effective: if you can offer something people genuinely find of value, they’ll tell their friends to sign up to and then you have a viral marketing campaign.

6. Promote an offer on twitter or other social networking sites where the next 10 people to sign up get 10% off your services, or a free consultation with you (note, this must NOT be a sales pitch, but genuine value). You might get 150 people sign up with you!

7. Hold a fantastic free tele-seminar. This is a great way to get sign-ups but you need to know what your ideal client wants to know more about.

8. And finally, make sure your newsletter has great content, provides really useful information and not just a sales pitch. Then include a ‘forward to a friend’ link and if it really is good, they will.
