A couple of weeks ago I wrote about WHY it is important to build your list, this week I’ll give you 8 oh so simple quick and easy tips as to how to do it…
1. Add ‘why don’t you sign up to my newsletter where you’ll learn x,y and z. Just click here’ to your signature on your email (see, I told you they would be simple and quick!)
2. When you go to networking events, don’t sell your product or service, tell people about your newsletter and how great this is. Signing up to this is pretty risk-free for your potential client and allows you to build your relationship with them when you’re not with them, over a longer period of time.
3. Do a joint venture with another coach or trainer or someone else who has a great list of their own. For example I’m being interviewed by Sharon Gaskin of The Trainers Training Company in January about how JigsawBox can help trainers sell more than their 1:1 time, and she’s letting her mailing list know about it. And her contacts start to sign up on my list…do you see how this one works?
4. Promote your next newsletter on Linkedin or Twitter, or wherever you network telling people about some great tips you’re just about to share with your subscribers so they need to sign up quick.
I’ll let you know the next 4 in a couple of days….watch this space!

Some good points here – you’re right, it’s easier to ’sell’ your newsletter/tips than your services to someone who doesn’t know you!

Re: (1) – give people the option too of clicking on an email link that automatically adds them to your list eg list@takeactiongetclients.com
That’s one click versus having to type their name + address in. Make it easy! Plus you can have multiple leadins instead of the one optin box.
Also weave these email links inside your blog posts – many people have switched off to looking at sidebars on blogs – they come in, read your post, and go!

Oh and make sure it’s a double-optin or you could collect a spammy list!
